Men’s Soccer Improves to 6-0 with Shutout of CCRI

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The #4 Monroe College men’s soccer team improved to 6-0 on the season with a 7-0 victory over the Community College of Rhode Island in a game played in Warwick, Rhode Island on Wednesday. Three goals in the first 20 minutes of action keyed the victory.

Monroe got on the board in the tenth minute, when Lucas Vaz played a ball to Felipe Hideki, who blasted it home, bringing the score to 1-0. Three minutes later, Gabriel Machado’s unassisted marker doubled the score. The final marker in the first 20 minutes of action came when Machado found Felipe Mendez, who slipped the ball past the keeper. Ben Mardones and Evan Finnegan also added first-half goals, and Monroe was up 5-0 at the break.

Both teams were scoreless for the first part of the second half. The Mustangs finally broke through in the 75th minute, when Mardones connected with Jorge Paez for a goal. That was Paez’s fourth goal this season. The final blow came in the 84th minute, when Mohamed Ndiaye scored his first goal as a Mustang. Monroe went on to win, 7-0.

In the victory, Daniel Henderson made a pair of saves to preserve the clean sheet. The team totaled 25 shots and a dozen corners.

The Monroe College men’s soccer team will return to action on Saturday, September 17th, against Massasoit Community College in Brockton, Massachusetts. The kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
