NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Monroe College men’s JV soccer team leveled its record at 2-2 with a 6-1 win against Georgian Court University on Monday. The team has outscored its opponents 12-7 this season.
A pair of first-half goals gave the Mustangs a 2-0 cushion over the Lions. Capy Charles opened the scoring at 34:05 with a shot off the left post that found the goal. Nine minutes later, Charles connected with Valmend Marki, who flicked a slow roller past the keeper into the left corner.
Monroe kept up the pressure into the second half and went up 3-0 just past the hour mark, when Kamal Sabar cleaned up a deflection off a defender. The Lions scored the next goal, bringing the score to 3-1, but the Mustangs took over from there.
Sabar found Alejandro Pizzaro on a one-timer, and Pizzaro scored his second goal in as many games. Twenty seconds later, a Christian Molina penalty kick made the score 5-1. Finally, Ahkeem Lawrence took a shot that Jeremiah Addison tapped in for the final marker. Monroe won the game 6-1.
In the victory, the Mustangs outshot Georgian Court 15-6, and doubled them up on corner kicks 6-3. The Monroe College JV men’s soccer team will return to action on Thursday, September 29th, against American International College in Springfield, Massachusetts.
