NEW ROCHELLE, NY –The Monroe College Women’s Soccer team played the ASA Avengers on Friday to a scoreless draw, setting up October’s rematch in New Rochelle to determine the champion.
The game featured a pair of nationally ranked sides as the Avengers entered competition ranked tenth, while the Mustangs were at eight. Both teams played extraordinarily well, with both sides fighting for possession, but there were few scoring opportunities.
The Mustangs were outshot 8-3 in the game and Marta Alemany made three saves. The three attempts on goal for Monroe came from Marta Turmo, Gabrielle Pereira, and Daiana Frizon, the latter seeing her first action of the season since returning from injury.
Monroe is unbeaten against a pair of ranked opponents this season. The team earlier earned a draw with Monroe Community College.
The draw sets up the rematch of the two teams, which will take place on Friday, October 28, at 7:00 pm at City Park in New Rochelle.
