NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Monroe College Men’s Soccer team improved to 10-0 after defeating Bunker Hill Community College 15-1 in a match played in New Rochelle on Saturday.  The Mustangs conceded a goal less than two minutes into play and had to come from behind for the first time in 2016.

The Bunker Hill Bulldogs found the back of the net just 90 seconds into action, but the Mustangs evened the score four-and-a-half minutes later when Ignacio Goya scored off a deflection in the box.

The Mustangs took a 2-1 lead in the first 15 minutes of play after a free kick by Evan Finnegan, who put the ball into the far side of the box. Goya flicked it back across the box for Felipe Hideki who scored.  An unassisted goal from Felipe Mendes came on a breakaway where he beat the keeper and put Monroe ahead, 3-1.

Hideki soon connected on his second goal of the night off a feed from Luiz Soupinski, which made the score 4-1.  The fifth Monroe goal came 30 minutes in when Antonio Sanchez played a through ball to Gabriel Machado, who beat the defense and chipped the ball over the keeper.

Finnegan was back minutes later, scoring a goal off a pass from Soupinski, who added another goal late in the first half. Monroe went into the break leading 7-1.

The Mustangs scored eight more times in the second half. First, Goya scored off a feed from Hideki and then Machado found Hideki to make the score 9-1.

Andreas Time then netted his first goal of the season off a pass from Dauda Kenneh.  Jamal Manley West made the score 11-1 off an assist from Jorge Paez.  West returned to the favor to Paez, who scored his first of three goals at the 85:42 mark. Kenneh scored 30 seconds later, and Paez scored the final two to complete his hat trick.

Monroe’s Men’s Soccer team returns to action on Tuesday, October 4, when they host Essex County College at 7:00 PM.
