NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The College of New Rochelle Womens Volleyball team climbed to within a game of the .500 mark with a dominating Saturday afternoon performance. The Blue Angels rolled past the host 3-0 (25-11, 25-9, 25-12) before blasting Medgar Evers 3-0 (25-11, 25-4, and 25-8). CNR now stands at 7-8, while Medgar Evers falls to 0-16 and Albertus sits at 5-10.
CNR was swinging on all cylinders offensively in both matches, dominating all statistical categories.
Leading the way on the day was junior Tamara Beckford (Bronx, NY) with 11 kills, six of which came against Albertus Magnus. Senior Melanie Ann Lopez Soto (Gurabo, PR) tallied 25 assists, 19 versus Medgar Evers, while senior Indigo Flowers (San Francisco, CA) had 17 assists versus the hosts.
CNR had a season-high 29 aces against Medgar Evers with senior Tiany Perez Diaz (Juncos, PR) leading the way with seven. Lopez Soto and Flowers each added five in the match. Against Albertus Magnus, CNR racked up 19 more aces. This time three Blue Angels had four, including Flowers, sophomore Stephanie Garcia (Chino, CA) and junior Caitlin Harrison (Bronx, NY).
CNR has now won three straight and five of the last seven contests. The Blue Angels will travel to Kean for four contests this weekend. They will open against the hosts and then play Elizabethtown The Catholic University, and conclude with Alvernia.
