NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The College of New Rochelle Mens Soccer team made the long road trip to face SUNY-ESF in a pivotal Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup Friday afternoon.  The Might Oaks came into the game with a 3-1 conference mark, while the Blue Angels entered the day at 1-0.

Three different Blue Angels found the back of the net to give CNR the 3-1 win and improve to 2-0 in conference play.  CNR now stands at 8-2 overall while SUNY-ESF falls to 5-2 (3-2 HVIAC).

Sophomore Nicorey Warren (Brooklyn, NY) started the scoring in the 9th minute as he put in a rebound off a shot from freshmen Jovanni Garcia (Garden Grove, CA).  Soon after in the 13th minute Garcia was taken down in the box and converted the penalty kick to make it 2-0.

SUNY ESF would cut into the lead when they scored on a loose ball inside the six yard box to send the teams into the half with a 2-1 score.

Freshmen Cesar Rodriguez (Santa Ana, CA) and freshmen Angel Gonzalez (Fort Lauderdale, FL) both had chances mid way through the second half but couldn’t connect.  But, Rodriguez would give CNR some breathing room in the 78th minute when he beat a defender on the left side, and buried his shot into the right lower net to set the final 3-1.

SUNY ESF led in shots on goal 13-12, but CNR had a commanding lead in shots overall. The teams combined for 16 corner kicks in the match.

CNR will host Berkeley College on Monday night in another HVIAC contest.  Tip off is 8:00pm
