NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Iona College men’s cross country program took to the field Saturday morning at the Princeton Invitational, placing 17th in the 8K. The Gaels sent five runners to the course, with freshman Jac Hopkins leading all Gaels with a fifth place finish.
Freshman Jac Hopkins finished fifth in his first collegiate race with a time of 24:30.1. Senior Thomas McClellan (25:35.1), freshman Daniel Galvin (26:17.0), freshman Brian Warsh (26:49.6) and junior Robert Kirsty (28:23.0) rounded out the Iona competitors.
Columbia (68 points) took the team title, placing two competitors in the top-10 and four in the top-15. Yale, Penn, Stony Brook, La Salle, Rutgers, St. Joseph’s, McNeese State,Marist, and George Washington placed behind Columbia in the top-10 respectively.
Yale’s James Randon placed first in the 8,000-meter event in 24:01.5, finishing six-tenths of a second ahead of Khalil Rmidi Kinini of Maryland-Eastern Shore.
The Gaels will now set their sights on the MAAC Championships in two weeks. The Maroon and Gold look to defend their 25-consecutive conference championships on Saturday, Oct. 29th in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.
