Henderson Paves Way To Princeton Invite Victory

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Senior Teghan Henderson’s first place finish in the 6K paved the way to an Iona team victory at the Princeton Invitational.

Henderson finished seven seconds ahead of the next competitor, crossing the finish line in 21:11.4. The victory was Henderson’s second in three races for the Maroon and Gold, as she placed first at the Brother Doyle Meet of Champions.

The Maroon and Gold led all teams with three top-10 finishers. Freshman Gemma Nuttall finished seventh in the race with a time of 21:39.5. Junior Rachel Garn took ninth in 21:41.6. Junior Cassandra Gill (21:55.4) sophomore Orlaith Moynihan (22:41.7), sophomore Shannon O’Hehir 22:55.3), sophomore Jessica Scheriff (23:00.2), junior Danika Jensen (23:04.5), freshman Julia Flower (23:17.2), junior Kara McKenna (23:38.9) also completed the 6,000-meter event.

Iona placed first with 91 points, three points ahead of Columbia. Maryland (111) Stony Brook (121), and Penn (133) rounded out the top-5 respectively.  George Washington (188), UMBC (205), Monmouth (235), Marist (242), and St. Joseph’s (272) completed the top-10.

The Maroon and Gold will next compete at the MAAC Championships in Lake Buena Vista, Florida on October. 29. Iona will look to avenge a second place finish at last year’s event after winning the event the previous eleven seasons.
