NEW ROCHELLE, NY –For the second straight game, freshmen Elijah Harris (Flushing, NY) led the upstart College of New Rochelle men’s basketball team pumping in a team-high 18 points against SUNY Geneseo in the consolation game of the Penn State Harrisburg Tip Off Tournament Sunday afternoon.  But, it would not be enough as the Knights downed CNR 86-74 to move to 2-1 on the young season.  The Blue Angels fall to 0-2.

The Blue Angels found themselves down 19-9 midway through the first period, but worked relentlessly to chip away at the Knights lead.  A bucket by freshmen Hunter Schenkel (Sayville, NY) with 20 seconds remaining in the half cut the lead to two possessions, 35-29 at the half.

An 16-4 run to start the second half led to an 18 point lead for SUNY Geneseo – its largest lead of the game at the 15:00 mark.  The Blue Angels again worked that lead down to seven, when junior Jack Tisdale (Dayton, OH) hit a three-pointer at the 8:00 mark to make it 62-55.

But, just a minute later, a pair of threes by the Knights John Decker pushed the lead back to double-digits.  CNR would get not closer than eight points the rest of the way.

Besides Harris, Tisdale and freshmen Matthew Dean (Marloboro, NJ) scored in double-digits, with 13 and 10, respectively.  Harris led all players with a game-high four steals, while Schenkel led CNR on the boards with nine.

Stats of the Game:

*  CNR took much better care of the ball in its 2nd game of the weekend, making just 10 turnovers to SUNY Geneseo’s 17.

*  Again the Blue Angels opponent made many more trips to the charity line, as the Knights converted 27-of-36, while CNR visited the line far fewer times, making 15-of-21.

*  Geneseo lived from behind the arc, canning 13-of-40 shots, while CNR made seven of 23.

Up next for CNR is it’s program’s first-ever home contest on Tuesday night when the Blue Angels host the College of Saint Elizabeth at 7pm.
