Wallace Makes it to Wrestling Final

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Fresh off his victory in the Murphy-Guccione Shoreline Classic, NRHS’s Jordan Wallace easily reached the finals of the prestigious Eastern States Classic last weekend.

The championship was held Friday and Saturday at SUNY Sullivan.

Jordan went 5-1 over the two days in matches against highly ranked opponents.

Wallace quickly advanced to the Round of 32 where he defeated David Flynn of Monsignor Farrell High School, currently ranked second in the Catholic High School Athletic Association (CHSAA). 

In the Round of 16, Wallace defeated Middletown High School’s Adonis Moreno, who is ranked first in Section 9.  In the quarterfinals, Wallace defeated Farmingdale High School’s Darrin Simmons, who is currently ranked first in Section 8.  

Wallace also defeated the No. 4-ranked wrestler in the state, Matthew Gaiser from Alexander Central School (Section 5), in the semifinals.  

Wallace was defeated in the finals by Tyler Barnes, currently the No. 1-ranked wrestler in the state at 170 pounds. Barnes was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler at the tournament. 

Wallace entered the tournament ranked No. 6. He is expected to move up when the rankings are updated.
