Iona Golf Competes at Cape Fear National Intercollegiate

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Iona College golf team completed its first day of the spring season on Sunday, March 19 competing in the Cape Fear National Intercollegiate.  The Gaels placed 11th of 16 teams, registering a stroke total of 322 (+34).  Appalachian State leads the invitational with a score of 304 (+16).

Senior Brian Fitzpatrick led the Maroon & Gold on Saturday with a 75 (+3) score.  His stroke total tied from for eighth on the individual leaderboard.  Fitzpatrick had 14 consecutive pars before bogeying three of the final four holes. 

Senior Alex Anderson tied for 31st with a +6 score of 78.  Sophomore Devin Delisle and freshman Matt Mirocco each placed tied for 42nd with a score of 80 (+8).

Iona had the fourth best score on the par three holes, averaging a 3.35 team score.  Delisle was one of just two players to record an eagle on the afternoon.

The Gaels return to the course tomorrow morning for the conclusion of the Cape Fear National Intercollegiate.
