NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Iona College outdoor track and field continued its weekend after sending representatives to the West Coast last night by notching four first place finishes at the Yale University Mark T. Young Invitational today
The men and women each claimed two first place finishes throughout the day. Kaitlyn Ohrtman led three top-five finishes in the 1,500 meter with a 4:46.42 winning time. Kara McKenna and Rachel Garn added fourth and fifth place finishes by finishing within .18 seconds of each at 4:51.24 and 4:51.42.
Orlaith Moynihan tabbed one of the two first place finishes for the Gaels in the 5,000 meter, crossing in at 18:09.54. She finished just ahead of teammate Julia Kearley, who clocked in at 18:12.82. Shannon O’Hehir added a fourth place finish in the event at 18:33.86.
On the men’s side of the 5,000 meter, Thomas McClellan notched a winning time of 16:05.22. The other first place finish for the men’s team came from Gerom Solis during the 200 meter with a 22.43 time. He also added a fourth place of 11.06 in the 100 meter.
Other notable finishes included three top-five finishes within the 1,500 meter men’s race. Robert Kirsty led the group with a second place finish of 4:12.76, ahead of a third place time of 4:13.71 from Christian Alberico while Ross Wightman turned in a 4:15.35 for fifth place. Edward Hayfron posted a second place time of 2:02.96 in the 800 meter while Alexandra Naughton finished in fifth during the 400 meter, racing to a 1:06.01 time.
