NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Ursuline Sister Gloria Marie Sullivan, O.S.U. died peacefully at Andrus-on-Hudson on September 26, 2016. She was one of four children born to Joseph A. Sullivan and Mary A. Phillips in Yonkers, New York. Her parents and her brother, Rev. Jordan Sullivan, O.F.M. Cap predeceased her. She earned a B.S. from the College of New Rochelle and M.S. Degree from Fordham University. She entered the Ursuline Novitiate in 1949.
Sr. Gloria spent a lifetime teaching Math at the Ursuline School, the Academy of Mt. St. Ursula and the College of New Rochelle, volunteering at hospitals and parishes, and in leadership positions with the Ursulines. Sr. Gloria served as a Parish Financial Assistant to St. Catherine’s Church, as Ursuline Provincialate secretary, as a Eucharistic Minister and volunteered in the nursery at St. Joseph’s Hospital. She served as the Microcomputer Coordinator for the Archdiocese of NY. She concluded her lifetime of service with a Ministry of Prayer until her death.
She had a tremendous love for her family as well as her students and sisters expressed by the kind and gentle way she interacted with others. She will be deeply missed by all who loved her.
Sr. Gloria is survived by her sister, Janice A. Sullivan of Pittsford, NY and her brother, Col. Roland R. Sullivan of Cornwall, NY. Her wake will be held on Thursday, September 29, from 1:00 – 3:00 P.M.at the Ursuline Provincialate Chapel, 1338 North Avenue, New Rochelle, NY, 10804 followed by a prayer service at 3:00 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will also be offered there at 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Ursuline Provincialate, same address.
