NEW ROCHELLE, NY — With the departure of David Lacher and Chrisanne Petrone, there are two openings on the Board of Education come this July 1.
The current board has approved a budget for the 2017-18 school year of $259,622,488, with a $5,936,852 spending increase, or 2.34 percent, over the previous year’s budget.
There will be two candidate forums:
League of Women Voters Forum on Monday, May 8 6:30 p.m. at New Rochelle Library
PTSA Forum on Tuesday May 9th at 7 p.m. at the NRHS Library.
School Board Candidates:
Amy Moselhi
Amy is a passionate advocate, Civil Engineer and artist with extensive experience in NYC heavy civil construction. She began attending BOE meeting shortly after the Webster ceiling collapsed to delve into the maintenance and safety of district schools. She sought to fulfill her civic duty and step up at a time when the district needed involvement by people with a deep understanding of facilities management and construction. Amy supported the second bond and is committed to helping oversee the 106.5 million dollar bond and district wide construction projects required to bring our facilities and buildings to a “satisfactory” condition.
While attending meetings she began to be very interested in policy and equity in our district. She moved to New Rochelle in 2011 and loves the City and hopes to help push our district in the direction of excellence both academically and in the area of capital improvement.
Amy is not only an accomplished Civil Engineer and the CEO of United Structure Solution Inc., but she is also an artist and an advocate. She serves on the Board of Hearts and Homes for Refugees; she is a member of the New Rochelle My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) Race Relations Committee. She is also a member of the Junior League and is the PTA Executive Co-Chair for the Board of Education for Daniel Webster School.
Paul Warhit
The New Rochelle school system has served my family well, and it is now time for me to give back. Our public schools draw residents to New Rochelle, and it is in everybody’s interest to ensure continued educational excellence throughout the district.
My wife, Ilissa and I have lived in New Rochelle for 27 years. We’ve raised our three children here and made meaningful connections with people from all backgrounds. I spent my 25 year professional career owning and operating a family retail business with 80 employees. I have also served as president of several not-for-profit boards, including Temple Israel of New Rochelle, The Westchester Jewish Council, and The New Rochelle Public Library Foundation. My intent is to fulfill the school district’s mission while spending public funds in a responsible and transparent manner.
If elected, I promise to work hard to ensure the following:
That our schools continue to EXCEL
That our money is spent WISELY
That our city continues to PROSPER

Moraydda Rosado
Moraydda Rosado is a Bilingual School Counselor for the New York City Department of Education. Her strong desire to help young people with their academic, personal, and social needs stems from her belief in the critical role that education plays in the life of a child. Rosado received a Master of Science degree for School Counseling from Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, New York, and a Master of Arts degree in Social Studies Education from Lehman College, City University of New York. From 2004 to 2013 Rosado taught History to English Language Learners in the Bronx. Her belief in quality education for all students has made her an outstanding advocate for public education.
Rosado has lived in New Rochelle for 9 years with her husband, Ivan, where she is an extremely involved member of the community, both at her children’s schools and at her church, Holy Family. They have 2 children in the City School District of New Rochelle. Currently her daughter, Nyah, is in 5th grade at Ward, and her son, Nicolas, is in 9th grade at New Rochelle High School. Both children are very involved in their schools, sports, and the community, and often volunteer with their family. Rosado has always been very involved with the school PTA, has chaired many successful school fundraisers, and is currently head of the 5th grade committee at Ward. Many parents continually look to Rosado for advice with their children’s education. Rosado and her family moved to New Rochelle for its excellent and diverse school system, and is committed to making sure it continues to thrive.
Rosado believes that being an educator is a privilege, and she wants to be part of a team that will guide and shape one of the most important institutions in our community. She is sincere about making sure the City School District of New Rochelle continues to succeed, and that is does so using our tax dollars wisely and transparently. For New Rochelle to achieve its goals, all stake holders must be motivated, driven and engaged. Rosado possesses these characteristics, and believes, that by serving on the School Board, she can contribute to the future and revitalization of New Rochelle.
