NEW ROCHELLE, NY — 

WHAT: The City School District of New Rochelle Health Fair

WHO:  Hundreds of district students, parents and community members are expected to attend, in addition to more than 30 different local vendors who will be providing health information and fitness workshops.

WHEN: Saturday, May 13 at New Rochelle High School from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

WHY: The fair marks the successful conclusion of a week-long series of school fitness events encouraging students, faculty and staff to be better aware of good health and chronic disease risk reduction strategies.

The fair will feature over 15 health and fitness events to the reinforce importance of living a healthy lifestyle.

One of the fair’s goals is to increase awareness of and begin to diminish the expected projections for 2030 which say that one-half of the nation will be obese, putting people at risk for heart disease, diabetes and other health issues.

Another goal is for participants to have fun while learning new health and fitness tips.

MORE:  To encourage exercise, there are 10 scheduled fitness events including: Zumba, yoga, a “Costume Run,” and a handball tournament. In addition there will be soccer, football and golf clinics and boot camps. They are intended to introduce people to new fitness regimens.

There will also be healthy food tasting opportunities from eateries such as Green Life, The Only Mart and more.

Participating vendors are: Aflac, the Alzheimer’s Association/Hudson Valley, the American Heart Association, the NYC Chapter of Black Nurses Rock, the Boys and Girls Club, CrossFit Pop, Down to Earth Farmers Market, Eastchester EMS, Eastern Mountain Sports, Fro-yo and Girls Inc.

Also participating are: Good Things & Stuff, Hard Bodies Extreme Fitness, Iona College Marriage and Family Therapy, Jungle Gym Martial Arts, Lincoln Park Grow, the Melanoma Foundation, Montefiore Hospital/ New Rochelle,  My Sister’s Place,  NCHPAD Inclusive Communities, New York Life, New York Presbyterian Hospital and New Rochelle Parks and Recreation.

Additional participants are:  Pinebrook Fitness, Shoprite, Smart Step Fitness, Soul Cycle Sports Clinics, SYYK, Tailor-Made Health, The Club at Pinebrook Fitness, YMCA and Zumba fitness with Maria.
