NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Pianists Matthew Harrison and Vlada Yaneva return to the Ossie Davis Theater at the New Rochelle Public Library for another compelling “Masterworks Conversation” performance on Saturday, June 10th, from 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm. Performing “Russia, A Composer’s Revolution,” the musicians will will explore the explosion of composers who brought Russia to the forefront of western music with a passion and genius that still shines brightly today.
Tchaikovsky was the first and guiding light of a new voice that merged western forms with a distinctly Russian flair for raw, unbridled emotion. Soon followed the composer-pianist pair of Rachmaninoff and Scriabin, classmates and rivals whose works rise to the summit of pianistic perfection. Stravinsky later changed everything music could be, leading the forefront of the avant-garde with a music that shocked and amazed audiences, and even provoked a riot in Paris.
Mr. Harrison holds master’s and bachelor’s degrees in music from the Manhattan School of Music. He has been bringing this interactive recital series to libraries throughout the eastern United States. He has been a teaching assistant for David Dubal at the Manhattan School of Music since 2003. Ms. Yaneva, has been playing the piano since the age of 6 and completed her studies at the Manhattan School of Music in 2006. She has performed throughout Europe and the United States giving concerts and lectures, earning many distinguished awards, and is an active piano teacher and educator.
