NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The New Rochelle Public Library continues its Wednesday series of summer films and live shows for children in the air-conditioned Ossie Davis Theater.

On Wednesday, August 2nd, from 10:30 am – 11:45 am, the “Film for the Younger Set” will be Room on the Broom. This beautifully animated film, based on the picture book written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler, is about a kind witch who invites a surprising collection of animals to join her on her broom, much to the frustration of her cat. When the gang saves the witch from a fearsome dragon she rewards them with a magnificent new broom which has room for everyone!

At 2:00 pm, the library again offers a pirate adventure—in a live show. The “Science Tellers” return for an action-packed presentation, which will focus on Tall Ships & Pirate Tales.  The scientist-storyteller invites elementary school-aged children to set sail with on a thrilling adventure about a crew of quirky pirates marooned on a deserted island. With mutiny and high-tide looming, they must rescue their salty captain and find a way to construct a ship before all hope is lost … at sea! Planks, sails, rigging, rails… what else could building a pirate ship possibly take? Throughout the story, volunteers from the audience will help us explore the incredible science behind clouds, flash paper, air pressure, inertia, explosions and more.

These programs are made possible by the Friends of the New Rochelle Public Library.
