NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A day after being ranked second in the region, the Iona College men’s cross country team has been slotted eighth in the NCAA Division I Men’s Cross Country Preseason National Coaches’ Poll according to the USTFCCCA.
Northern Arizona received seven first place votes to earn the top spot in the preseason poll, ahead of Stanford and three first place votes. Syracuse and Colorado were honored with the final two first place votes, ranking third and fifth with Arkansas checking in at four.
BYU and Wisconsin find the two spots ahead of the Gaels in eighth while Oregon and Oklahoma State round out the top ten. Columbia joins the Maroon & Gold and Syracuse has the three representatives of the Northeast Region by jumping in at 29th in the top-30 poll.
The season-opener for Iona is this Saturday with a short trip to Poughkeepsie to participate in the Marist Season Opener. The men’s race is scheduled for 9:30 am.
