Blue Angels Win Five Set Match on the Road

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The College of New Rochelle Women’s Volleyball team played on the road Tuesday night at non-conference opponent The Mount Saint Mary College Knights in a five set thriller 22-25, 25-18, 25-23, 23-25, and 15-9. Sophomores Imani DeBose and Victoria Alomar led CNR’s offensive with 13 kills each. Alomar led the team with the highest hitting percentage of the night, finishing with a .290.

The Blue Angels started slow in the first set of  the match with a flat energy on the court. The Knights pulled out to a quick lead with the Blue Angels tying the set back up at 13-13 with a service ace from Junior Rosa Angeles. The Knights came back strong after that pulling out an 8-0 run on to take the lead with a score of 16-22. CNR came back, but could not overcome the deficit falling in the first set, 22-25.

CNR took the next two sets to lead over Mount Saint Mary, 2-1. The Blue Angels found the lead early on in the second set with a seven point serving run from Sophomore, Cristal Michelle Liciaga. Liciaga put the team up 11-6 over the Knights. The third set was a competitive set with the points going back and forth until the end. CNR pulled out the third set with a 25-23 win with a kill from DeBose.

The fourth set was tough set for the Blue Angels. The team tallied up six serving errors and nine attack errors. The team stayed patient and held Mount Saint Mary as they worked through the errors on our side of the net, however fell short with a 23-25 loss.

CNR took control of the fifth set from the beginning, taking a 6-2 lead over the Knights. The team held that lead the entire set finishing with a 15-9 win. Sophomore, Brianna Garcia Marzan had a great night on the court for the Blue Angels. She led all players with 27 digs. Liciaga also had a stellar night on the court with a team-high 27 assists, 9 kills, 5 aces, and 9 digs.
