NEW ROCHELLE, NY — New Rochelle Police were called to Salesian High School in New Rochelle Wednesday following a threat to the school made by a student. The school was closed Thursday as a result.

Police sources say the student was removed from the school and sent for evaluation. The school was closed as a precaution.

“Yesterday we were advised that on October 6th one student made a threatening remark to another student,” said NRPD Captain Robert Gazzola. “We are investigating the incident but at this time we do not believe the threat was credible.”

“The decision to close the school was made solely by school officials, who I am told are also handling the incident internally,” he added.

Reached for comment, an unidentified school employee stated the school had no statement at this time.

The Salesian web site currently displays a message, “School is closed today,Thursday, October 12, 2017.”

Founded in 1920, Salesian High School is a Roman Catholic secondary school founded and run by the Salesians of St. John Bosco.
