Iona Volleyball Sweeps UMass Lowell On Senior Day

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Iona College volleyball team earned victory in its final non-conference game of the season on Sunday afternoon, taking down UMass Lowell in straight sets (25-18, 28-26, 25-23).  Prior to the game, head coach Patric Santiago and members of the athletic administration honored the program’s seniors, Kassandra Darnaby and Shaina Campbell.

Campbell recorded a career-high eight blocks to lead all players.  Her personable best comes just one day after she had tied her previous benchmark against Manhattan at six.  Darnaby ended with three kills and two digs.

Freshman Jamie Smith had an all-around dynamic effort with nine kills, seven blocks, 11 assists and eight assists.  Junior Claire Archibald had a team-high 11 kills and a .296 hitting percentage to go along with 10 digs four a double-double effort.

Iona collected 10 blocks as a team.  It’s the Gaels third straight game with double-digit blocks.  The Maroon & Gold had a season-best .272 attack percentage.

Sophomore Tess Connolly was Iona’s presence on the service line with a team-best three aces.

UMass Lowell was led by sophomore Madi Bell and her 12 kills.

The Gaels return to action at home against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference foe Marist on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 1 PM.
