NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Tchaikovsky would be in for a surprise if he attended the performances of The Nutcracker at New Rochelle High School this weekend, featuring some 80 New Rochelle students.
The Ajkun Ballet Theatre has incorporated some hip-hop into the seasonal classic. The students who portray the mice get to show their hip-hop skills, while others perform more traditional ballet moves. The students come mostly from the District elementary schools, with some from Albert Leonard Middle School and the private Thornton-Donovan School.
It’s showing at the Whitney Young Auditorium on Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
