NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The following items were some of the key actions taken by the Board of Education at its January 2 meeting.
The Board of Education authorized change orders in Phase 2 capital improvement projects for the 2016 bond work at New Rochelle High School, Isaac E. Young Middle School, Webster Elementary School and Jefferson Elementary School. Among the changes were adding granite curbing required by the city for the new bus cutouts and sidewalks at Jefferson, leveling areas of the locker rooms under old benches as well as the removal of bedrock while making stairwell and utilities improvements at IEYMS.
The Board of Education approved the addition of various personnel, including a guidance counselor for Campus School, a special education teacher for Albert Leonard Middle School, a special education teacher for Jefferson Elementary School and a teaching assistant for New Rochelle High School.
The Board of Education authorized the program titled “Title IIA-Preparing, Training and Recruiting High Quality Teachers and Principals” and approved appropriations totaling $411,710, of which $222,652 is designated for instructional personnel salaries. The program will be entirely funded through the New York State Education Department.
Funds under the program will provide for elementary teachers’ salaries and the New York State Coalition for Independent and Religious Schools (NYSCIRS) for the following non-public schools: Holy Name of Jesus School; Salesian High School; Iona Preparatory School; Hallen School; Hudson Country Montessori School; Mt. Tom Day School; Thornton Donovan School; Ursuline School; Westchester Area School; and Westchester Torah Academy.
The Board of Education authorized the program titled “Title III-Limited English Proficient Students” and approved appropriations totaling $190,100, of which $92,180 is designated for instructional personnel salaries.
