STAB CITY, USA: Man Seriously Wounded in Knife Attack Five Blocks from New Rochelle High School

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A 32-year old man was seriously wounded Friday evening following a knife attack involving two assailants, one of whom came at him from behind.

New Rochelle Police Department Captain Robert Gazzola said the man told officers that as he was walking on Winthrop Avenue between Brook Street and North Avenue when he was grabbed from behind by one male, as a second male approached him from the front.  The victim stated one male said, “got you now.”  He stated he was then punched several times and stabbed in the thigh with what he believes to be knife.

“Nothing was taken from the victim,” said Gazzola. “Detectives are conducting a follow-up investigation.”

Police officers interviewed the victim after responding to Montefiore New Rochelle at 8:37 p.m. on Friday nights based on a report that a 32 year old male victim was in the emergency room with a stab wound to his left thigh.

The location of the knife attack is 5 blocks from New Rochelle High School and less than a block from New Rochelle Police Department HQ and City Hall.

The stabbing incident on Winthrop comes in the wake of the fatal stabbing of Valaree Schwab, a New Rochelle High School student, inside the Dunkin’ Donuts at 646 North Avenue, three blocks North of the most recent stabbing. There was another stabbing at New Rochelle High School involving a student who stabbed another student in a classroom. The alleged assailant in that attack, Bryan Stamps, was Involved in another incident the day before when he was reportedly assaulted by seven other New Rochelle High School students at Gemelli’s pizzeria. Stamps was arrested in 2016 for stabbing a fellow student at Isaac E. Young Middle School.
