High Tech Helps Westchester County Police Nab Car Thieves in Downtown New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — An alert officer in Westchester County Police Department’s Real Time Crime Center in Hawthorne, NY helped nab car thieves in New Rochelle, NY after they stole an SUV in Mount Vernon, NY.

At about 11:18 a.m., a detective in the Real Time Crime Center broadcast an alert that a stolen Ford Explorer was being operated in downtown New Rochelle. WCPD PO Slotoroff located the vehicle and boxed it in so it couldn’t drive away. Four people in the vehicle bailed out and fled.

The Real Time Crime Center began operations last fall and has already used real-time data from technology in the field to track suspects, arrest suspects and recover stolen property.

PO Slotoroff pursued two of the suspects along the Metro-North railroad tracks as additional WCPD officers and NRPD officers responded. The pair were quickly in police custody. 

Day Quon Simmons, 19, of Mount Vernon, NY and Dante Holder, 18, New Rochelle, NY were booked at WCPD headquarters in Hawthorne, NY.

Charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th Degree, a felony, and Criminal Trespass, a misdemeanor (for being on the railroad property) are

Simmons and Holder are expected to be released on their own recognizance for a future appearance in New Rochelle City Court.
