Monroe Men’s Track and Field Enjoys Stellar Day at Princeton Invitational

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The Monroe College men’s track and field team collectively turned in a dominant performance on Saturday, as the Mustangs competed in the Princeton Invitational, hosted by NCAA Division I Princeton University, at the Jadwin Gymnasium.

The Mustangs picked up numerous wins throughout the meet on Saturday, as well as many personal-best times and NJCAA National Championship qualifying efforts.

Kasique Oliver earned first place in the 1,000-meter run on Saturday, setting a new personal-best time at 2:27.76, which qualifies him for the NJCAA National Championships. Lizo Sibeko was close behind in fourth, crossing the line in 2:32.68 to also qualify for the NJCAA Championships. Thapelo Makofane ran a strong race as well, finishing in 2:36.06 to claim sixth overall.

Oliver earned another win in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:04.97. Donte Rolley-Williams came in second in the race with a time of 1:08.50. Timothy Epps rounded out the Top 3 with a time of 1:09.22, while Michael Baker helped the Mustangs sweep the top four spots by finishing in 1:11.10.

Elijah Young broke the tape in the 400-meter dash after running a first-place time of 50.41. Daniel Martin finished the race in 58.46.

Young also picked up the win in the 200-meter dash, finishing with a time of 22.51. Armon Kelley took fifth in the race at 23.22. Epps came in right behind him with a sixth-place time of 23.30. Rolley-Williams came in seventh at 23.66.

In the 800-meter run, Shaquille Barzey finished in 2:04.59. Martin finished the race with a time of 2:10.32.

In the 60-meter dash, Maurice Morris was the top Mustang finisher with a time of 7.15. Kelley finished in 7.37, while Ranshawn Keys crossed in 7.62. Emilio Wilson-King ran a time of 7.76 in the event.

James Majenge ran a personal-best time in the mile run, finishing in 4:19.22 to also improve his NJCAA ranking in the event. Makofane ran a time of 4:29.46 in the race. Barzey ran his first collegiate mile on Saturday, finishing in 5:03.16.

Majenge later ran a time of 8:54.89 in the 3000-meter event to take fourth place.

In the shot put, Chisom Enekwechi placed sixth overall with a throw of 14.40 meters.

The Mustangs have one more indoor meet scheduled before the NJCAA National Championships. They will compete on Friday, Feb. 23, in the Armory College Last Chance qualifier at the Armory New Balance Track & Field Center in New York City. Friday’s meet is set to begin at 3 p.m.
