NEW ROCHELLE, NY —

City School District of New Rochelle Community Members,

As school safety and security remains on our minds both locally and nationally, I can report that we in the City School District of New Rochelle are seeing progress on several fronts. You may have seen earlier this week that we have reached an agreement with the city of New Rochelle to station armed police officers at New Rochelle High School through the end of this school year.

More measures are in the works. The members of the Board of Education’s new Task Force on Reducing Violence in the Lives of Children and Youth are being notified now of their appointments. The full Task Force will be announced Monday, and the members will begin their important endeavor later in the week. The Task Force will examine school and city policies that directly or indirectly impact safety on and off school grounds.

The Board of Education is also close to hiring a firm to conduct a security audit. The audit will examine the policies and practices that affect school and student safety.

The recommendations from the Task Force and audit will inform the safety policies and procedures that will continue into the next school year and beyond.

While we move forward with these important efforts, and commit ourselves to always holding the safety of students and staff as our highest priority, we never lose sight of our students, their needs and their achievements. In this e-newsletter, you will find an article about New Rochelle High School wrestler Jake Logan, a junior, who just finished a perfect season, capturing the state title in the 182-pound class. He is the second NRHS wrestler ever to win a state championship.

We will continue to support and celebrate our students as we undertake even more measures to ensure that the City School District of New Rochelle provides safe, nurturing environments for students to learn.

Sincerely,

Dr. Brian G. Osborne

Superintendent
