NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The New Rochelle Public Library’s popular International Music and Dance series, now in its 35th year, continues on July 24th at 7:00 pm with a stirring performance by dancers from the Redhawk Native American Arts Council. Performing in full regalia, the dancers will showcase traditional dances and stories from the Southwest, Northern Plains and Eastern Woodlands, with audience participation. The free performance is suitable for all ages. Seating is on a first-come/first-served basis, to the capacity of the library’s 145-seat Ossie Davis Theater. Doors open at 6:45 pm.
The Redhawk Native American Arts Council is a not for profit organization founded and maintained by Native American artists and educators residing in the New York City area. Since 1994, the Council is dedicated to educating the general public about Native American heritage through song, dance, theater, works of art and other cultural forms of expression. The council represents artists from North, South, Central American, Caribbean and Polynesian Indigenous cultures.
The library’s International Music and Dance series will continue on Tuesday, July 31st with Middle Eastern Dance by Aszmara with music of Armenia, Turkey and Egypt; on Tuesday, August 7th with Bokandeye African Dance and Drum Troupe; and concluding on Saturday, August 18th at 1:00 pm, with an outdoor performance by Calpulli Mexican Dance Company.
