Cowan describes her inspiration for the project as something that “lies in the people that populate New York City and the intellectual culture that characterizes life in one of the richest and most diverse cultural zones in the world.”
Cowan, who is a resident of and owns a studio in Westchester, fostered her love for art in her adolescence and grew her admiration and dedication for creating it as she got older. She earned her bachelor’s at the Fashion Institute of Technology and studied art and drawing at FIT’s school of art & design, and then later attended New York University to study art history and Greek literature. Marie’s works have been featured in states like here in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, to countries like Germany. She has participated in art organizations such as the National Association of Women Artists, and is a member of the Portrait Society of America.
