NEW YORK, NY — Dozens of paddlers are expected to hit the water with paddleboards and kayaks on July 29—postponed from July 22 due to inclement weather predictions—for a journey across Long Island Sound and back. The third annual Paddle Across the Sound fundraiser will bring together athletes, outdoor enthusiasts, and activists for a feat of endurance that will raise awareness and funds for a healthier Long Island Sound. Funds raised from the event will support Save the Sound’s efforts to find and fix pollution sources while holding big polluters accountable and leading habitat restoration efforts throughout the Long Island Sound region.

Participants will launch from the New York Athletic Club at Travers Island at 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 29. The group will paddle approximately 7 nautical miles roundtrip to Sands Point on Long Island and back, accompanied by Coast Guard and volunteer safety boats for support.

Upon completion of the paddle, participants will enjoy an after-party on the beach at the New York Athletic Club, featuring light refreshments.

The event is hosted and sponsored by Nancy Vincent of SUP Westchester, with additional sponsorship from Noosa Yoghurt, Athleta stores, and Fair Harbor Clothing Company. Participants can still register at https://tinyurl.com/PATS2018.
