NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The New Rochelle League of Women Voters “Coffee and Conversation” on Friday, September 21st   will feature Councilman Jared Rice. The free program, open to the public, takes place from 9:30 am – 11:00 in the first floor meeting room of the New Rochelle Public Library. At this meeting, Councilman Rice will give an update on New Rochelle’s My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) initiative known as MBKNewRo.

President Obama issued an MBK Community Challenge in February 2014 and 250 communities across the country have accepted that challenge. New Rochelle was the first community in Westchester and one of the first in the state to start a My Brother’s Keeper chapter in April 2015. This cradle-to-career initiative encompasses six Milestones that highlight important developmental accomplishments for children and young adults ages birth to 24.  My Brother’s Keeper has the goal of improving life outcomes and opening up opportunities for all youth, especially young men of color. New Rochelle’s MBK is a partnership of the City of New Rochelle and the City School District with more than 120 stakeholder organizations and 100 volunteers supporting the initiative’s efforts. Guided by an Action Plan that was announced on October 26, 2016, it has implemented and sponsored a number of important programs and events that Councilman Rice will discuss.

A Question and Answer session will follow Councilman Rice’s informal presentation. Complimentary coffee and light breakfast fare will be served.
