NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The City School District of New Rochelle hosted tuberculosis information sessions this morning and this evening at Columbus Elementary School. The Westchester County Department of Health notified the District this week that a student at Columbus has been diagnosed with active tuberculosis. The child is being treated, is not at school and is expected to make a full recovery.
Staff members and parents or guardians of children identified as potentially exposed were notified personally yesterday and with a letter today. At a later date, they will be notified of free testing that will be scheduled.
The Department of Health advised the District that a long period of close contact with an infected person is generally required for tuberculosis infection to be transmitted.
