NEW ROCHELLE, NY — City School District of New Rochelle schools will open late for students on Monday, Oct. 1, as a test run of procedures that may be employed during inclement weather and other situations. Dismissals will be at the usual times. Lunch will be served in all schools.

Faculty and staff members will report to schools at the usual times for professional development.

For students, opening times will be staggered to allow the District to use the same yellow buses to make runs first to the high school and middle schools and later to the elementary schools. The high school and middle schools will open first because they are generally located closer to major roads, which are cleared more quickly in inclement weather.

The changes will be as follows:

Secondary Schools: Yellow buses will take over the runs of Westchester County Bee-Line buses to New Rochelle High School, Albert Leonard Middle School and Isaac E. Young Middle School. They will start their runs at 9:30 a.m. Students who normally ride the yellow vans to those schools, including special education students, will be picked up at their stops two hours later than usual.

Elementary Schools: All elementary schools will open three hours later than usual. Parents and guardians are asked to bring their children to their bus stops three hours later than they usually do.

Pre-K: Pre-kindergarten classes are cancelled for the day.

Private and Parochial Schools: Classes and transportation runs are unchanged and will follow their usual schedules.

BOCES: Bus runs for the Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) classes will be unchanged for the day.
