NEW ROCHELLE, NY — This weekend, when New Rochelle pulls out all the stops to showcase the arts, New Rochelle High School students will join in the celebration. Student collages and paintings will be on display in the school and student performances will take place at the Starbucks in Wykagyl.

The annual weekend-long New Rochelle & Pelham ArtsFest begins today and invites all to enjoy creative works and live performances in venues throughout the city and neighboring town. NRHS students’ events in the festival will take place tomorrow. They are:

Art exhibitions in the Museum of Arts and Culture and adjoining hallway in New Rochelle High School from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Use the Braemar Avenue entrance off North Avenue.)

A presentation of skits – “Scenes from a Starbucks Patio” – staged by acting students from PAVE (Performing And Visual Arts Education) starting at 11:30 a.m. in the outdoor area of the Starbucks at 1278-80 North Ave., New Rochelle.

Art4Peace, a collaborative collection by the PAVE artists and the New Rochelle Art Association, fills the museum. Students worked in groups of three to interpret poems and create collages to represent their meanings. The hallways display PAVE students’ inked and water-colored drawings inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe paintings they studied during their recent visit to the New York Botanical Garden. Drawing and Painting 2/3 students have on display self-designed watercolor compositions created after learning 15 different painting techniques with the medium.

“I am thrilled that many more members of the community will see tomorrow what we already know – our students produce marvelous works of art and show a passion for all forms of creativity,” said Interim Superintendent Dr. Magda Parvey. “I wish all involved great success in ArtsFest 2018.”

“The enthusiasm for arts in New Rochelle is inspiring,” said Marc Schneider, the District Director of Art and Music. “This wonderful annual event is a great opportunity for our art students to show their community what they can accomplish, and for them to be part of something special and meaningful.”
