NEW ROCHELLE, NY — New Rochelle High School’s varsity football team will now play Section 9 winner Newburgh Free Academy in the Class AA state regional final, after topping No. 1-seeded John Jay-East Fishkill, 26-9, last weekend for the Section One Class AA championship and the team’s fourth consecutive Section championship.

The John Jay-East Fishkill defense shut down Jordan Forrest and New Rochelle’s ground game at the contest played at Mahopac High School. So, the Huguenots took to the air. Senior wide receiver Halim Dixon-King caught three touchdown passes. On the day, he caught seven passes for 116 yards.  For his performance Halim was named the game’s “Outstanding Back.”

“He’s been playing like this all year long,” Coach Lou DiRienzo told The Journal News. “We were in situations where we had to throw. We were in situations where we needed a big-time receiver and he’s it.”

The NRHS defense created four turnovers. Kayshaun Thomas, Nick Mack, Jalen Mention and Omari Walker all had interceptions.

Senior quarterback, Mac Coughlin, completed 9 of 14 passes for 145 yards and two touchdowns. Forrest had 19 carries for 86 yards rushing, including a 62-yard touchdown run.

Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. on Saturday at Mahopac High School. Admission is $9. Children under 12 and seniors are $5.
