NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The students at George M. Davis Jr. Elementary School are getting their spirits up for a Fun Run. The fundraising event takes place next Thursday, Dec. 6, but cheers were already ringing out this week as teachers held pep rallies to get the students’ enthusiasm up for the big day.

“It’s going to be exciting and fun because it’s going to be a challenge,” said first grader Lea Kisling after all the classes in her grade watched a video on the activity.

Students are seeking sponsorships from parents, relatives and family friends to donate a dollar amount for each lap. On Thursday, they will run laps around the outdoor track – weather permitting – or in the gymnasium if it’s not nice out.

The Fun Run is being sponsored by the Davis PTA, and will help fund indoor recess activities at the school.

“It is great to see students so excited about a new fundraising activity that builds on our social-emotional learning initiatives,” said Principal Anthony Bambrola. “With this Fun Run, they’ll have fun while building character and developing values, such as a sense of responsibility, all while helping us add to the indoor activities for all to enjoy.”

Students saw other benefits as well.

“When I run, I get a lot of exercise, and that’s what my mom and dad want me to do,” said first-grader Amaya Johnson. “They want me to be healthy.”
