New Rochelle Middle School Student Arrested for Menacing and Attempted Assault with a Knife

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A 13-year old student at Isaac E. Young Middle School was arrested by New Rochelle Police on charges of Menacing and Attempted Assault following an incident with a knife on January 30th.

The incident was first reported by Colleen Wilson of the Journal News.

New Rochelle Police Captain Cosmo Costa confirmed to Talk of the Sound there were two victims. The mother of one victim pressed charges. The suspect will be processed by the Westchester County Probation-Family Court, he said.

NRPD declined to release the arrest report due to the age of the suspect. Talk of the Sound obtained the NRPD “blotter” which shows police were called to 270 Centre Avenue (the street address of Isaac E. Young Middle School at about noon on Wednesday, January 30 based on a report of “menacing”.

Interim Superintendent Dr. Magda Parvey issued the following statement:

A student brandished a knife at Isaac E. Young Middle School on January 30. The knife was confiscated and no one was injured in the incident. The school promptly notified the parents of the students involved and reported the incident to the New Rochelle Police Department. Police later made an arrest. As is customary, we do not discuss disciplinary matters concerning any student. We commend the employees involved for taking quick action to protect the safety of our students.
