I get asked about this quite a bit since Pat Carroll retired as New Rochelle Police Commissioner. He lived in New Rochelle. His successor does not.
So, what’s the deal?
“There is no requirement for the Police Commissioner, or any other commissioner for that matter, to live in New Rochelle,” said City Manager Charles B. Strome.
“Nothing in the Charter requires residency,” he said. Strome said this is typical for police commissioners and chiefs in Westchester County.
