NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Westchester County Police on Tuesday night arrested a Massachusetts man and seized 54 pounds of marijuana he was transporting in his car.
Simon Huang, 22, of Boston was charged with Criminal Possession of Marijuana 1st Degree, a felony.
Huang was operating a Lexus sedan northbound on the Hutchinson River Parkway in New Rochelle when he was he was stopped for a traffic violation about 6 p.m. in the vicinity of Weaver Street. While speaking with the driver, the officer detected an odor of marijuana in the back seat area of the vehicle.
After additional investigation, two large laundry bags were found in the trunk containing a large quantity of marijuana. The marijuana, totaling 54 pounds in weight, was contained in 46 separate heat-sealed packages.
Huang was booked at county police headquarters in Hawthorne and held overnight pending arraignment this afternoon in New Rochelle City Court. His vehicle was impounded.
