MAMARONECK, NY — Both Mamaroneck High School and Mamaroneck Ave. elementary school orchestras received a “Gold with Distinction” rating yesterday at the New York State School Music Association Majors  Festival.

NYSSMA Majors is an ensemble festival (hosted at Fox Lane HS in Bedford, NY) where orchestras, bands and choirs from across the State perform for music adjudicators for a rating, Bronze – Gold. Our school orchestras earned the highest rating possible (MHS at the highest level, Level 6, and MAS, Level 1)  – a very challenging and difficult feat.

The Mamaroneck High School Chamber Orchestra consists of MHS string players, grades 9-12 and rehearses 3 times per week at 7am. They performed a beautiful program, including works by Dvorak, Corelli and A. Williams.  The Chamber Orchestra is led by Ms. Elyse Gellert, and the MAS orchestra is led by Ms. Katherine Sinsabaugh.
