New Rochelle Board of Education Votes No on SROs, Yes on Armed Police in Schools

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The New Rochelle Board of Education voted tonight to accept the final recommendations of the Culture and Climate Committee

  • No School Resource Officer(s) (SRO) will be placed in any schools in the City School District of New Rochelle
  • Support a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that more clearly defines the role of the New Rochelle Police Department (NRPD) Mentoring Program in our public schools
  • Develop an MOU between the City School District of New Rochelle and the New Rochelle Police Department that establishes the parameters of the NRPD Mentoring Program within New Rochelle public schools

The vote was 8-1 in favor with Christopher Daniello the sole dissenting vote. In casting his no vote, Daniello expressed his support for the mentoring program.

Under the NRPD Mentoring Program, armed police officers will be allowed in the schools.
