NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The New Rochelle Board of Education, citing “irreconcilable differences” came to a “mutual understanding” that it is in the “best interest of the District and Dr. Feijóo that her employment agreement be terminated October 6, 2020” and that she be paid a lump sum equivalent of 9 months of her salary or $213,750 plus medical benefits.
The cash payments are payable in two installments, the first within 60 days of the execution of the Separation Agreement and the second between January 1st and January, 2021.
Unless she obtains full time employment elsewhere that provides substantially equivalent health/dental insurance, Dr. Feijóo will receive family health insurance until June 30, 2022 where she pays 20% of the premium and family dental insurance until June 30, 2022 where she pays 50% of the premium.
The hiring of Dr. Feijóo as Superintendent of the City School District of New Rochelle was announced on June 28, 2019. Her hiring provoked immediate backlash after community members learned Feijóo was a party to a $90 million “reverse-racism” lawsuit in New York City where she was currently employed. Her official start date was November 1, 2019. She did not last one year as Superintendent.
Feijóo’s hiring was championed by then-outgoing Board President Jeffrey Hastie who soon found himself under a Board-authorized investigation for misappropriation of thousands of dollars in taxpayer funds related to his unauthorized use of a District issued mobile phone while on trips to Italy to visit his girlfriend and related trips to Germany, Turkey, Morocco and on a cruise ship.
