NEW ROCHELLE, NY — New Rochelle Board of Education Vice President William Ianuzzi, Site Director for the Mascaro Clubhouse facility of the Boys & Girls Club, has tested positive for COVID-19, sources say.

Ianuzzi did not respond to an email seeking comment.

The Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle issued a statement to parents informing them someone within their program tested positive for COVID-19 without identifying Ianuzzi.

“There is a possibility that your child was exposed to this individual in the 48-hour window prior to the date of diagnosis,” said Nathaniel Adams III, Director of Operations for the Boys & Girls Club. “We are in ongoing communication with this individual, who is following strict medical guidelines and will remain in quarantine as recommended by their doctor.”

Adams said the organization’s Mascaro Clubhouse facility, a site used for remote learning by the school district and an after-school program, will be closed until Thursday October 22nd.

“If you or your child are having symptoms that align with COVID-19 or was in our program on Thursday, October 15 and/or October 16 please contact your healthcare provider or, if you do not have a healthcare provider, please contact your local health department immediately and indicate that you may have been exposed to the virus,” he added.

The Mascaro facility will undergo a deep cleaning and sanitizing. Children will not be readmitted to the Boys & Girls Club until the children are tested and have a negative result.

Ianuzzi has come under some criticism for attending a golf outing at the Wykagyl Country Club on October 13th. The dinner was held indoors without observing social distancing rules. Ianuzzi is pictured in a photo at the event with 12 other people only one of whom, Nathaniel Adams III, is wearing a mask.

  1. If parents were contacted without identifying the individual, why would it be alright to identify them now? This article is gratuitous. There is no reason to identify these people and they don’t deserve to be criticized as if they had a leisurely golf outing, void of all responsibility and respect for their community. There can be nothing but assumptions about how the virus was contracted. Frivolous reporting, full of fear mongering and finger pointing, how refreshingly trite.

    1. No idea what you are on about.

It is NEWS when a school board Vice President contracts coronavirus and 29 students are quarantined, and a boys and girls club facility shuts down, one used by the school district, and a defendant in a criminal case cites exposure to coronavirus in this matter as a reason not to appear in court.

Both BGCNR and CSDNR have put out public statements.

In what world do you imagine that reporting on this matter is “frivolous”?

  2. First of all, instead of being on the attack and passing judgement on this gentleman We should all be wishing him well and a speedy recovery.
Second of all, what in the world makes anyone think by closing a food pantry would do anyone any good? People are starving and they depend on it. No one knows for sure how they get this, what if these people weren’t seen in this picture? Do we know if someone else serving food to someone in need, isn’t infected?
I went to a restaurant a few weeks ago located in New Rochelle and it was full capacity, manager walking around with mask under chin, people walking back and forth to restroom without a mask at all and not one employee stopped them or said a word, yet NO mention of this place in any paper and hundreds of patrons go there all week long.
The fact is, this Is a spiteful, insensitive person sent personal information (which is a violation) to a paper for their own gratification should be ashamed of themselves, maybe he/she should put some some of his/her misguided energy into doing some good and talk about how much these people do for the less fortunate in his/her community everyday of their lives. Maybe instead of criticizing them, you can thank all of them for all they have done for these kids and their families.

You never know, YOU, your relative or a friend just may need them one day.

    1. First, people are not “starving” in New Rochelle.

Second, closing a food distribution site for a couple days to do a deep clean (as BGCNR is doing) is not an existential threat to anyone.

Reporting is not “an attack”, this article is not “spiteful” or “insensitive” and it is not a “person” matter — it is a public health issue.

Reporting on this matter is not “criticism” and no one is wishing anyone ill or is unappreciative of anyone helping the less fortunate.

Take a breath and try to get a grip on reality.

  3. Those other individuals are from the MLK facility located at 95 Lincoln Ave. I’m puzzled as to why that facility is still open and giving out food to the public. This Covid is a serious issue and it seems as if nobody is taking it to heart. Just think of all the people that line up food their food distribution and come in contact with them. This is a shame nobody is even considering this.

    1. The event involved WestCop at 95 Lincoln so you make a valid point. I will ask the District about that
