New Rochelle Public Libraries Remain Closed Until Next Week

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The main New Rochelle Public Library and the Huguenot Children’s Library have been closed since November 7th, following the notification that a staff member tested positive for COVID 19. Both libraries will remain closed until test results of other staff members are completed, and results allow for the resumption of the limited public hours re-opening. The library administration is hopeful that this may be possible as early as Monday, November 16th.

The staff member who tested positive works at the Main Library. Because of social distancing and protective measures the library has had in place since reopening in June, it is unlikely that library patrons were in direct contact with this staff member.

The health and safety of patrons and staff, as well as the entire New Rochelle community, is of utmost concern to the Board of Trustees and the library administration. A “deep cleaning,” including disinfecting of impacted areas has already been completed.  Staff members are working from home or accessing the facility for essential activity only.

In the meantime, the library’s on-line platform for books, audiobooks, movies, and other materials continues to expand with new items and more copies of popular titles. With a New Rochelle library card, patrons can download books, movies, music, educational programs – and much more. If residents do not yet have a library card, they can get a temporary card via email after completing a form on the library’s website, www.nrpl.org.  The due dates on all materials have been extended and overdue fines will not be imposed.  All items being held will remain in place until the library re-opens.

The book return drops at the Main Library and HCL remain open for returns. Voice messages may be left on the library’s main number, (914) 632-7878, and will be returned within 24 hours.
