Director of Facilities Carl T. Thurnau will provide an update on all construction activities, on the district’s efforts to prepare facilities for the return of students and staff in response to COVID, and plans moving forward.

In regards to COVID, Thurnau will update the committee on cleaning, HVAC filtering, partitions, PPE, and other processes such as health screening and social distancing.

A representative from Jacobs, the construction management company overseeing the construction under the $106.5 mm bond approved by voters in May 2016, will describe efforts to ensure contractors are in compliance with safety protocols.

Jacobs Report November 2020 (it is large so the report is in a zip file on Google Drive)

Other topics expected to be raised are the tasking of the committee with developing criteria for a long-term home for the Alternative High School, temporarily housed at New Rochelle High School, a new Complaint Tracking system for school community members to report facilities issues and the goals and objectives of the committee for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year with an eye towards the City School District of New Rochelle completing and submitting to NYSED new Building Condition Surveys in 2022, the first since construction work began in 2016.

The BCSIs are detailed reports on all aspects of building condition. The 2019 Enacted Budget included changes to state law that relate to the five year cycle for building condition surveys. Under the new statute, districts must conduct Building Condition Surveys on a staggered schedule as assigned by the Commissioner in calendar years 2020 through 2024, and every five years on that same five year cycle thereafter.  New Rochelle was assigned 2022.
