New Rochelle Nurses Set to Strike Tuesday; Impact Already Felt

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Members of the New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA) intend to walk out of Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital for a two-day strike at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, December 1st. Monday,

November 30, is the last chance for the union and the hospital to reach a deal before the strike, said union officials.

NYSNA put Montefiore New Rochelle on notice on November 19th of their intent to strike. Under New York State law, nurses are required to deliver a 10-day notice before striking.

The NYSNA represents more than 42,000 members in New York State making it New York’s largest union and professional association for registered nurses.

Montefiore New Rochelle has already begun transporting critically ill patients out of the hospital and will close the Emergency Room.

According to the NYSNA, its members reported that two patients were transferred out of the hospital overnight and the Emergency Department has stopped accepting patients.
