NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Three suspects used a sledgehammer to smash open a front door at a check cashing storefront in downtown New Rochelle in the early hours of Friday morning then eluding police before escaping onto I-95, according to a statement from the New Rochelle Police Department.

Police responded to the Community Financial Service Centers Check Cashing at 202-204 North Avenue shortly after 3 a.m. on a report of a burglary in progress.

The three suspects arrived in a white minivan, broke through the front door with a sledge hammer and removed an ATM machine from within.

Officer’s arrived at the scene as the white van was pulling away and attempted to stop it. The suspects refused to comply and fled the scene, finally entering Interstate-95 South. Attempts to stop the van were immediately terminated thereafter.

New Rochelle Detectives are conducting a follow-up investigation.

  1. Curious why no shots were fired.
Police staunchly defend shooting a man on feet in June who wasn’t doing anything except running away, while violent felons caught in the act we allowed to drive away.
    Seems very inconsistent.
