Major Water Main Break in Downtown New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A major water main broke in downtown New Rochelle. Bridge Street and surrounding area closed to through traffic by Halstead Station (Avalon One). Track #4 impacted.

Incident reported about 4:00 p.m., ongoing.

NRPD and NRFD on scene. Suez Water on the way. Waterfall onto train tracks.

UPDATE 6:30 PM: NRFD responded to the area after automatic fire alarms went off due to water pressure drop; addressed without incident. Requested statements from Suez and Metro-North. No response as of yet.

UPDATE 11:10 PM: WNBC-TV Crews Work to Fix Broken Water Main in New Rochelle (Talk of the Sound swapped our video from the scene for some helicopter video shot by the WNBC helicopter)

UPDATE 12:30 AM 1/28: Suez and Contractors on scene repairing broken water main under Bridge Street. The seal around a 12-inch water main cracked all the way around. Crews expect to finish repair work by 4 a.m. Halstead Station (Avalon One) does not receive water from this main so the building was not impacted.
