Truck Strike on Hutch Sends Thousands of Cans Flying

Written By: Robert Cox

RYE BROOK, NY — The northbound Hutchinson River Parkway at King Street was closed this morning after a big truck went on a small parkway and struck a low bridge.

The result was thousands of empty cans all over the place.

Westchester County Police closed the road as the cleanup from this bridge strike continued for hours.

A tractor-trailer filled with empty beverage cans headed for recycling struck the King Street Bridge on the Hutchinson River Parkway at about 11:30 a.m. The two northbound lanes were blocked for hours.

The King Street Bridge has become infamous over the years as the most struck bridge in New York. Between 2008 and 2018, the bridge was struck 130 times. The bridge is near Interstate 287 and Interstate 684 not far from Interstate 95. Commercial vehicles are prohibited on the Hutch.

  1. What part of “NO” Trucks does a driver not comprehend?! Next step, install flashers at top of bridges stating warning.
