Police Investigating Social Media Threat of Act of Violence at New Rochelle Middle School

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Youth Detectives are investigating a claim that a student was going to commit an act of violence at Albert Leonard Middle School.

According to police, Principal John Barnes contacted New Rochelle Police on June 5th at about 11:30 a.m. to report a Snapchat post by a student, claimed that another student was going to commit an act of violence at the School.  

Investigating Officers interviewed the student’s mother, and the matter will be followed up by Youth Detectives this week.

On Saturday, June 5 at 1:23 p.m, Barnes issued a statement addressed to Albert Leonard Middle School Community Members:

We are writing to inform you that we learned of a social media post claiming a student at Albert Leonard Middle School (ALMS) overheard a student say that they had the ability to carry out an act of violence at the school. The school administration has reported this to law enforcement and is working with them to take any appropriate action. Please be assured the safety of our students and staff is our number one priority.

Thank you for your trust and understanding. We will continue to keep you apprised to the extent that is legally permissible and appropriate.
